Arbuckle Cottage is the re-instatement of a ruined workers cottage in North Lanarkshire to create a single rural family home.

The existing ruined cottage footprint defines the perimeter of the bedroom and kitchen accommodation with the addition of a companion block to the North, this companion contains a lounge, dining room and study which connect to the garden and uninterrupted views across the wider landscape.

Built against a re-instated stone gable facing onto the road a simple palatte of materials has been selected using blackened timber and black sinusoidal aluminium roof at the existing footprint, and contrasting aluminium sinusoidal cladding to the companion, paying homage to the rural typology and materiality.
