Critical Dialogues II, Glasgow
Following our trip to Venice for Deriva Veneziana , representing emerging Scottish Practice at the Venice Biennale, we had opportunity to revisit the project for an exhibition in Glasgow.
Jonathan Charley, Graphical House, and the team at A+DS developed a timeline to establish the work shown in Venice as part of a continuum of alternative practice.
The 4 practices (ourselves, GRAS, Pidgin Perfect and Stone Opera) moved the work forwards into a new phase to engage with local issues in a similar way to those addressed in Venice.
For this leg of the project, we made contact with Glasgow City Council's Environmental Services team. They were very hospitable and granted us access to join them on their small boat, which operates on the River Clyde. We journeyed the length of the river, from Clydebank to the tidal wier in the east end of the city centre. We recorded this journey using our trusty red balloon, exploring areas of the city which are marginalised, unknown, and inaccessible to the communities who live adjacent to them.
Alongside the activities on the river, we also worked with Maklab to express our journeys, and the comparative cities that hosted them, through a special table top which was CNC routed. This process of making is a new departure for us in terms of adopting this new technology in a hands on way.
