CCA Foyer Launch

The re-modelled foyer of the CCA opened on Friday 7th October alongside the newly launched Saramago Cafe.
The new foyer provides dedicated retail spaces for Welcome Home and Aye Aye Books around the centrally located CCA staff and visitor circulation areas.
The altered space is already bringing new visitors across the threshold.

The Lighting Design Awards Ceremony took place last Thursday evening at the Hilton in Marble Arch.
DO had submitted the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick which was shortlisted in the Heritage category in a year that saw the largest ever submission to the awards.
We are delighted that against stern competition the project was 'Highly Commended'.

Due to the adverse weather this weekend on the North East Coast of England the planned switch on at the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick has been postponed until further notice.

The recently completed DO-Architecture illumination of the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick Upon Tweed has been shortlisted for the 2011 Lighting Design Awards.
The official switch on for the illumination takes place on Saturday 27th November 2010 from 5pm.

Works on site have just been completed to permanently illuminate the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick.
A ghostly animation within the arches mimicks the passage of trains above, while occasional colour shifts across the 28 arch installation reflect important local, national or international events.
The formal switch on takes place on Saturday 27th November 2010 from 5.15pm.

Royal Berwick Bridge Works Starting on Site

Proposals for the illumination of the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick-Upon-Tweed should shortly be realised when works commence on site.
Animated illumination will echo the passage of trains passing along the dramatic structure across the River Tweed and should be ready for switch on in the Autumn of 2010.

Planning approval has been received for a private home near Onchan in the Isle of Man.
Set in mature woodland the former barn will be converted into a 4 bedroom family home.
KOG Cafe Planning Approval

Planning approval has just been granted for the re-modelling of the KOG Cafe at Parnie Street.
The new space is expected to be ready for the opening of the Merchant City Festival in July.

Brighton - Switch On

On Wednesday evening, 14th July, Geoffrey Theobald, Brighton Councillor and Lead Cabinet Member for the Environment carried out the formal switch on at Brighton Station, and the London Road Viaduct at Preston Road and Beaconsfield Road.
Brighton & Hove are delighted with the transformation through light and animation in these spaces, which is already encouraging greater use of the underpass and marking gateways into and out of the city.
Brighton Station and Viaducts Complete

Just completed the installations at Brighton Station (Trafalgar Street), and the London Road Viaduct at Preston Road and Beaconsfield Road.
Glad the locals seem to be enjoying it.
Switched off for a few weeks until the official launch on 14th July.
Fairfield Farm Planning Approval

The proposed regeneration of the 18th Century Fairfield Farm with a proposed new community pavilion and working gardens has today received planning approval from Glasgow City Council.

After being flooded out and working from the Holiday Inn for the last 2 weeks we're delighted to be back in our Stockwell Street Studio.
We've just returned from our office trip to Brighton and are ready to start working from our main space again Monday morning.
We've been flooded.

We discovered on Friday 3rd April that our office had been completely flooded, including the 4 flats above.
We'll need a new floor and repairs so we have temporarily re-located to the Holiday Inn Express, opposite our shop on Stockwell Street.
We might be a bit slow replying to emails for a few days while we dry everything out, but we will be back in our shop in 2 weeks.

Brighton Station on Site

Installation works have commenced at Trafalgar Street in Brighton.
Soon the underpass will be filled with animated illumination, hoping to draw visitors towards the boutique shops and cafes of the historic Laines.
London Road Viaduct - Listed Building Consent

DO have this week been awarded listed building consent to illuminate the London Road Viaduct, positioned next to Brighton Station which flies over the city.
Royal Border Bridge, Berwick

DO have just been announced as winners of an open competition to carry out an options appraisal to illuminate the Royal Border Bridge in Berwick.
The Grade 1 listed railway viaduct was completed in 1850 and 2009 marks the 150th anniversary of the death of it's designer, Robert Stephenson.
It is hoped that the illumination will be ready for the anniversary celebrations in October 2009.
Steven McGhee House

DO have recently completed a voluntary project to re-model and extend the home of a young man who tragically broke his neck in an accident, resulting in paralysis from the neck downwards.
The new building has allowed Steven to return home from the Spinal Injuries unit at the Southern General Hospital.
Enhanced open ceiling spaces and carefully positioned roof and wall windows provide flexible, airy and comfortable spaces which allow Steven to have a sense of independance, while his family are located only 2 rooms away.
We are amazed at Steven's strength of character and wish him the best for his future back at home.
Connect 4, Cardiff - on site

The Connect 4 install has started in Cardiff over the river Taff.
The installation is a response to people movement and will bring illumination to the Central Station bridge and pedestrian underpass.
First illumination is expected at the end of February 2009.
Al-Furqan Mosque on Site

DO are working with the UK Islamic Mission to re-model the Carrington Street mosque.
The project commenced on site with roofing works late in 2008, the main construction works will commence in February 2009 including interior re-modelling and the addition of a contemporary tower.
Brighton Listed Building Consent Applications

DO are continuing to work in Brighton on a series of high profile projects.
In December we have lodged applications for listed building consent to bring feature illumination to the historic London Road Viaduct and Brighton Train Station.
Brighton & Hove Council have asked DO to illuminate each of the Grade 1 listed structures to enhance the arrival and departure sequence to Brighton, and to complement the regeneration of the North Laines area.
The first project is expected to commence on site in March 2009 at the Trafalgar Street station entrance.
Govan 101 awarded planning permission

Govan 101, an ambitious proposal for Govan Housing Association to create new apartments for sale, rent and part ownership has been awarded planning approval by Glasgow City Council.
The project is expected to commence on site during spring 2009.
Aboukir Street Site Commencement

Two bookend blocks to provide 24 new homes for part sale and rent have commenced on site in January 2009 for Linthouse Housing Association.
The projects are the first in a large scale regeneration of greater Govan which includes new housing provision of 102 new units by DO at Golspie Street, and the conversion of the historic Fairfield Farmhouse and lands in the adjacent Elder Park, also by DO.
James Tait awarded RIBA SIlver Medal

Maryhill Burgh Halls Switch On

At 8pm on Thursday 18th September the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Bob Winter switched on the illumination at Maryhill Burgh Halls.
The larger project by JM Architects will see the building re-modelled and re-opened to the public as a community resource.
Brighton Viaduct Illumination Trial

DO have successfully carried out a lighting trial at the viaducts dominating the Brighton skyline.
It is intended to create a low energy illumination which will identify the dramatic structure after dark and mark the main vehicular gateways in and out of Brighton to the North.
It is intended to make the installation permanent.
Brighton Marina Switch On

DO have just installed a feature illumination at the Marina entrance tunnel in Brighton.
Using tonally adjusted fluorescent luminaires the installation establishes a visual threshold at the marina, and illustrates the sound curve created while driving through the enclosed space.
Golspie Street Planning Application

The planning application for 110 new apartments for sale, part sale and rent has been lodged with Glasgow City Council.
The project by Govan Housing Association and Cruden Estates will create a dramatic new terrace onto Golspie Street with an infill at adjacent Shaw Street.

Dumbarton Castle & Rock Illumination

The Dumbarton Castle Society have just announced that DO have been successful, through invited competition, to carry out an options appraisal study for the illumination of Dumbarton Castle and Rock.
The proposals must pay homage to the history of the place while depicting contemporary Scotland.
Low energy high impact illumination will be considered, incorporating possible on-site renewable energy generation
Brighton Station

DO shall shortly commence working with Brighton & Hove Council alongside Network Rail and Southern Railways to investigate re-modelling of the entrance area at Brighton Station.
In particular the study will focus on enhancement of connections between the station, the North Laines and the New England complex.
Preshal Trust Options Appraisal

DO have just completed an options appraisal to design a new multi- function building to accommodate the Preshal Trust and their outreach work in Linthouse, Elderpark and Govan.
The atrium building will mix social, recreation, fitness and consultation programs to continue the good work already being done by the trust.
The team at Preshal are seeking funding and sponsorship to bring the proposals to reality.

Brighton Marina

Brighton & Hove Council with X-Leisure have appointed DO-Architecture to create an installation with light in the road tunnel linking Brighton Marina with the city.
The shifting sound intensity created when passing through the tunnel will be represented on the wall using a simple graph of light, varying density and amplitude.
Fairfield Farm Public Consultation

Community consultation on the future of the Fairfield Farmhouse is under way.
The consultation is seeking feedback and ideas from the people of Linthouse, Elderpark and Govan on proposals to re-generate the original 300 year old farm house, including the addition of a set of new barns to create a community farm yard.
The consultation feedback will inform the design development to progress the project to planning application later in 2008.
Trafalgar Street Planning Approval

The proposed development of 2 bookend housing blocks at Trafalgar Street in Linthouse has just gained planning approval.
The project for Linthouse Housing Association will provide 24 new homes for sale and rent including 8 wheelchair accessible properties, and is expected to start on site in the summer of 2008.
New Housing in Govan

DO have been successful through OJEU selection to design 100 new apartments for sale and rent on the Western edge of central Govan.
The development for Govan Housing Association marks the beginning of a long awaited large scale housing development programme across Govan, Elderpark and Linthouse.
Initially three architecture firms will each develop significant sites in Govan.
The site assigned to DO will create a strong urban edge and threshold to maintain and regenerate the historic heart of central Govan.
Maryhill Burgh Halls

DO have been successful through invited competition to create a feature illumination on the Maryhill Burgh Halls.
The illumination is a component of the ongoing re-modelling and enhancement works to the main building by JM Architects for The Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust.
The completed building project will return the original hall to use while gathering new community facilities around a central courtyard.

The Titan Crane is Launched

On Thursday 26th July 2007 the Clydebank Titan Crane was officially launched to the public.
The first public visitors set foot on top of the jib of the 100 year old structure at 7pm before a dramatic fireworks display marked the start of the feature illumination.
DO would like to congratulate Clydebank re-Built, Collective Architecture,Skratch, the Design Team and Contractors for managing to bring this spectacular and very complicated project to successful completion.
