i–360 Brighton with Marks Barfield Architects

Location: West Pier, Brighton

Client: Marks Barfield Architects with Brighton & Hove Council

Do were commissioned through open international competition to bring feature illumination to Brighton i-360.

After completing the globally recognised London Eye, Marks Barfield Architects have designed an exhilirating visitor experience at the launch point of the ruined West Pier in Brighton.

A glazed pod will transport 200 visitors close to the top of the elegant 180m high spire, while the historic esplanade pavillion buildings, originally decorated by Owen Jones, will be fully restored and incorporated into the visitor experience.

The feature illumination will introduce subtle shifting colour to travel with the pod, while the top of spire will appear to breathe at a human pace.

Animated light will also stretch out to sea on the footprint of the ruined former West Pier.

The entire feature illumination utilses LED fittings with a power consumption served by local generation from 2 wind turbines located on top of the spire
