The Altvaid House, Isle of Skye

Altvaid House is conceived as a contemporary rural dwelling that respects and enhances its island setting. Sited with care, the home is aligned to traditional crofting patterns of scale, orientation, and form, allowing it to sit naturally within the wider peninsula landscape. The single-storey composition ensures the building remains visually modest, preserving long views while creating a sense of shelter and rootedness in its environment.

Externally, the design draws on the textures and tones of local materials, giving the house a quiet durability and an immediate connection to place. Internally, light-filled spaces are arranged to capture both dramatic outlooks and moments of intimacy, balancing openness with domestic comfort.

Altvaid House demonstrates our ability to deliver cost-efficient, high-quality rural homes that are at once restrained, contextual, and enduring. It builds on our growing body of work in remote and island contexts, where we combine design sensitivity with robust construction knowledge to support clients in realising sustainable self-builds and community-led housing initiatives.
