Conservation

Adrian is an RIAS Conservation Accredited Architect bringing advanced experience of working with older buildings to facilitate a conservation approach where and when this is necessary or appropriate.

Conservation is a core consideration of our practice, we always first consider if and how we might retain, adapt and improve existing structures before we might consider removal or demolition.

That approach links closely with our approach to sustainability wherein we we agree with the statement by Carl Elefante in 2007 that 'the greenest building is the one that is already built’.

We feel that this statement applies not only to the protected historic fabric but that it should also be considered in our overview of the entire built environment and what we propose and construct next.

We would welcome a conversation with you if you are considering a project involving historic buildings or have aspirations to retain, adapt and possibly extend an existing building.

Adrian is also a Section 6 Certifier for the Scottish Government Building Standards Division and can bring this knowledge and experience to those considerations as to how we might retain and improve the already built fabric.
