Wanlock street

Location: Govan, Scotland

Type: Residential

Stage: Feasibility Study

In March 2022, Govan Housing Association commissioned a Design Team to examine and determine the residential development potential of a site located on Wanlock Street in Govan, occupied by a former care home facility and its associated grounds.

Set along a parallel axis with the northern extent of Wanlock Street, the proposed development (Option G), re-establishes the site’s historic ‘tenemental’ footprint evident between the late 19th and mid-20th centuries.

Addressing the north-eastern boundary of the site the development is separated from an adjacent residential block via a new pedestrian access point which links Wanlock Street with the development’s dedicated parking area and passively-surveilled rear 'courtyard'.

The proposed building has evolved from a complex set of site constraints responding to various urban conditions and providing an interface between different scales and patterns of development. Its form - derived from a contextual analysis of the scale, proportions, building lines, materials and architectural details of the surrounding streetscape - is sculpted by the arriving opportunities.

Townhouse properties - arranged over three storeys with dual-aspect views - featuring private front and rear gardens along with a south-facing roof terrace. All units feature up to 3 bedrooms and are intended for family and multi-generational living.
